Luxury Bedroom Ideas

Given that we spend about a third of our lives sleeping it stands to reason that the bedroom should be a place of rest and relaxation. There are some pretty basic bedroom do’s and don’ts to ensure this happens, but if you want to take it up a notch and really treat yourself, consider a few special extras. Here are some luxury bedroom ideas to make your space the restful haven you deserve.

The Bed

The most important item in any bedroom is the bed. Not only is it where you sleep, but from a design perspective, it’s also often the focal point of the room.

  • Start with a solid foundation by investing in a quality mattress, and don’t skimp! Ultimately you’ll end up paying for it with your comfort and health, so purchase the best quality you can afford.
  • A take-notice headboard is the next step in creating a dedicated focal point. Ultimately you can go with any height you want depending on what kind of look you want to create, but four feet tall is pretty standard.
  • Once you’ve got that, top it off with quality sheets and soft, luxurious fabrics. And remember that luxury doesn’t necessarily mean piling tons of fabrics on top of each other. It’s more about the quality and texture than the quantity.

Fireplace

Nothing creates a sense of warmth, comfort and romance like a fireplace. They can turn any average space into a warm and cozy retreat. While wood-burning fireplaces are charming they can be a bit messy for tranquil spaces like bedrooms. So for the ultimate in luxury, opt for a gas fireplace that can be controlled remotely. That way you don’t have to get out of bed to turn it on or off. Electric fireplaces are also cost-effective alternatives that can add warmth (literally and figuratively).

Bedroom Lighting

In any bedroom, it’s important to include multiple light sources. From a design perspective, a statement fixture in the centre of the ceiling is always a good idea. It draws the eye upward and sets the tone for the rest of the room. Aside from that you also want to have bedside lighting and depending on the size of the room, potentially some other sources of ambient, accent and task lighting. Consider wall sconces and floor lamps as options. But the number one thing you can do to add a sense of luxury is to put every single light on a dimmer switch. Dimmers allow for complete control and allow you to change the atmosphere in an instant.

Home Automation

In the bedroom, one of the best things you can do to add a sense of luxury is to install motorized blackout blinds that can be controlled with the push of a button. Whether you want to let in or close out the light from outside, you can do so without having to get out of bed. If your lighting is automated you can also control it all from a smartphone meaning you don’t have to get out of bed to adjust the lights. Home automation is great for a lot of reasons – luxury just being one of them.

Moulding

To create a really luxe look, consider a moulding application on the walls or ceiling. These types of architectural elements add significant depth to rooms, giving them more character than they would otherwise have. It also lends a unique, one-of-a-kind appeal. And what’s particularly great about mouldings is that you can adjust them to fit any budget. You can go with high-end, intricate mouldings, or simple DIY panelling.

Coffee or Wine Bar

If you’re going to treat yourself to a luxury bedroom you may as well go all the way. If you’ve got the space, why not indulge with a coffee bar or wine fridge? On those lazy weekend mornings where you want a coffee but don’t want to go all the way to the kitchen you’ll be glad you did!
