Wishlist Template – Before starting a renovation or design project make a wishlist for the space. It will help you get your thoughts in order and figure out what you need and why.
Budget Spreadsheet – If you’re doing a home improvement project make sure you’ve budgeted appropriately. Use a spreadsheet before and during the renovation to keep you on track financially.
Financing – Depending on the size of your renovation, you might wish to go with a personal loan or an unsecured line of credit. A CIBC Personal Loan offers structured payments over a specified term, so you will always know how much you need to pay out each month. Alternatively, a CIBC Line of Credit will give you the flexibility to access funds at a moment’s notice, paying interest only on the amount you use. Explore your options and determine what works best for you.
How to Hire a Renovation Team – DIY projects not for you? Here’s how to hire a renovation team who can complete your project in a professional way.
Schluter Systems – Since Seamas’s bar is part of an outdoor entertaining area we decided to install a tile countertop, and used Schluter materials to ensure a water-tight surface. Counters always run the risk of liquid spills, but with the exposure to the elements and being so close to the swimming pool, Seamas’s needed a little extra protection.
Scott’s Last Word…
“Seamas’s bar makeover is a great example of how you can transform a space and add value in a short amount of time, and without a major renovation. Rather than replace or rebuild the bar, we kept the existing structure and covered it with a peel and stick cladding from Timberwall. Then we topped it off with a counter made out of Schluter Kerdi Board and covered it in a large-scale tile from Daltile. It looks brand new and a heck of a lot more stylish than it did before. We also wanted to make sure to personalize the space a bit, and since Seamas isn’t shy about his Irish heritage, we surprised him with a large-scale peel and stick map. Then we tied it all together with some simple lighting and accessories.
For an entertaining area like this one you want to make sure you’re well-equipped for guests. So for Seamas we included a full size Whirlpool refrigerator for drinks and snacks, as well as a Danby kegorator, complete with a hefty supply of Ace Hill. Now he can keep both stocked and he won’t have to run back to the house for refills. I’m pretty confident that with all these upgrades Seamas, his sons, and they’re friends are going to get even more use out of this space than they did before.”
